Sasria SOC Limited invites financially deserving South African matriculants to apply for the Sasria Bursary Scheme 2026.
This bursary supports high-performing learners who wish to pursue undergraduate studies in fields aligned with the insurance and financial services sector.
About the Sasria Bursary Scheme
Sasria is South Africa’s state-owned specialist insurer, providing cover for special risks such as civil unrest, riots, strikes, and public disorder — risks typically excluded from conventional insurance policies.
Through its corporate social investment programme, Sasria funds tertiary education for academically talented students who face financial barriers to accessing university.
The scheme focuses on developing skills in:
- Insurance and Risk Management
- Finance and Accounting
- Economics
- Mathematics and Statistics
- Computer Science and Information Technology
Who Can Apply?
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- South African citizen with a valid SA ID
- Aged between 16 and 20 years
- Completed Grade 12 (Matric)
- Minimum average of 70% in Matric
- Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy) is compulsory
- Household income below R600,000 per annum
- Not related to a current Sasria employee
Failure to meet any requirement will result in disqualification.
Fields of Study Funded
The bursary supports bachelor’s degree studies in:
- Insurance or Risk Management
- Mathematics or Statistics
- Finance
- Accounting or Economics
- Computer Science or Information Technology
Studies must be undertaken at a recognised South African university or university of technology.
Full vs Partial Bursary
Applicants must indicate whether they are applying for:
- Full Bursary, or
- Partial Bursary (tuition fees or accommodation only)
The choice should reflect the applicant’s financial circumstances.

Required Supporting Documents
All documents must be certified (not older than three months) and each upload must not exceed 8 MB.
Required documents include:
- Certified copy of South African ID
- Proof of residence
- Certified copy of latest Grade 12 results
- Certified copies of parent/guardian IDs
- Proof of income (or affidavit if unemployed)
- Self-employment affidavit and 3 months’ bank statements (if applicable)
- Death certificate (if parent deceased)
- Affidavit if applicant lives alone
Incomplete applications will not be processed.

- Academic information
- Parent/guardian details
- Financial information
- Short survey
Applicants must consent to Sasria’s Privacy Policy and POPIA requirements before submission. The system allows you to save progress and return later.
Motivational Paragraph Requirement
Applicants must submit a short motivational paragraph (approximately 10 lines) covering:
- Academic achievements
- Leadership experience
- Career goals
- Reasons for deserving the bursary
This section is critical — ensure it is clear, structured, and authentic.
