About the Case Officer Role
The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) is recruiting 107 Case Officers for 2026 to strengthen offender rehabilitation, parole management, and correctional administration in the Free State and Northern Cape.
Case Officers are essential in managing offender records, ensuring sentence compliance, and supporting rehabilitation programmes. This role offers a stable public service career with long-term growth potential.
Salary and Employment Levels
The role is structured into three progression levels:
- CB1-1 (Entry Level): R212,358 p.a., no experience required
- CB1-2 (Intermediate): R257,895 p.a., requires 10 years CB1-1 experience
- CB1-3 (Senior): R313,521 p.a., requires 10 years CB1-2 experience
This structured progression allows Case Officers to grow professionally within DCS.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following:
- Matric / Grade 12 certificate
- Completed Correctional Science Learnership, Basic Training, or Induction Training Course (ITC)
- For CB1-2 & CB1-3: relevant experience at lower levels
- South African citizen
- Competencies in computer literacy, report writing, interpersonal skills, and knowledge of correctional policies

- Ensure accuracy of offender information
- Maintain profile registers
Parole & Release Coordination
- Record parole recommendations
- Monitor minimum detention periods
- Ensure release calculations are correct
Administrative Management
- Handle mail and correspondence
- Maintain confidentiality
- Manage classified documents
Security & Compliance
- Maintain safe custody of offenders
- Conduct searches
- Monitor offender movement
