The Fulbright Foreign Student Program invites South African graduates and postgraduates to apply for the 2027–2028 academic year. This prestigious programme offers fully funded opportunities to pursue postgraduate study or research at accredited universities in the United States.

What Is the Fulbright Program?
The South African Fulbright Program supports talented students through a rigorous selection process and provides:
- Tuition & academic placement support
- Visa processing assistance
- Health insurance
- Pre-departure orientation
- Ongoing academic & pastoral support in the U.S.
- Re-entry and alumni engagement in South Africa
The goal: develop future leaders who contribute to South Africa after completing their studies.
Study Opportunities (2027–2028)
- Visiting Student Researcher (Non-Degree)
- For South African PhD students currently registered
- One year of research at a U.S. university
- NRF-funded PhD students encouraged to apply
- Master’s or PhD Degree Studies
- Funding for one degree only (Master’s or PhD)
- Duration: up to two years

- South African citizen or permanent resident (≥5 years)
- Not a U.S. resident or dual citizen
- Academic requirements:
- Visiting Student Researcher: PhD registration
- Master’s: 4-year Bachelor’s, BTech, or 3-year Bachelor’s + Honours
- PhD: Must hold a Master’s degree
