SANParks External Bursary Programme 2027 Opens for South African Students
The South African National Parks (SANParks) is inviting qualifying young South Africans to apply for its External Bursary Programme for the 2027 academic year.
The bursary aims to support students from communities neighbouring South Africa’s national parks by providing financial assistance for approved full-time studies at accredited public higher education institutions.
Unlike many bursaries that focus on a single profession, the SANParks External Bursary supports a wide range of qualifications including environmental sciences, engineering, tourism, artisan trades, social sciences and emerging digital skills.
Applications close on 21 August 2026, and eligible students are encouraged to apply as early as possible.

Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be a South African citizen
- Be between 18 and 35 years old
- Live in a community adjacent to a SANParks-managed national park
- Provide proof of residence
- Be entering full-time post-matric studies in 2027
- Study at an accredited public university, university of technology, TVET college or public college
- Provide proof of application or admission
- Have a household income below R350,000 per year
- Study towards a Degree or National Diploma
- Current students must have passed 100% of their registered courses
Preference will also support SANParks’ transformation objectives, including women, persons with disabilities and designated groups.
