The City of Cape Town is inviting suitably qualified, unemployed candidates to apply for its 2026 Student Opportunities, Learnerships, and Internship Programmes under the Human Resources Directorate – Corporate Services (Training and Development).

These structured programmes are designed to equip youth and graduates with practical workplace skills and real municipal experience.

Available Programmes

1️⃣ Skills Programme (Fixed-Term Contract)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 10 / Grade 11 / Grade 12 (Matric)
  • N1 – N5
  • Level 2 – 4 qualifications

Overview:
This programme offers structured experiential learning and foundational workplace exposure to help participants build essential work skills.

2️⃣ Work Integrated Learning (WIL) – Fixed-Term Contract

Minimum Requirements:

  • National Certificate N6 (requiring WIL/In-service Training)
  • Official letter from institution requesting WIL placement
  • Academic transcript

Overview:
WIL is a compulsory practical component for students who must complete in-service training to obtain their qualification.

Overview:
Available for graduates from Universities and Universities of Technology. These internships may be part-time or full-time and focus on professional development and practical municipal exposure.

5️⃣ Learnerships (12–24 Months)

Minimum Requirement:

  • Grade 12 (Additional requirements may apply depending on the specific learnership)

Overview:
Learnerships combine structured theoretical learning with practical workplace experience and lead to an NQF-registered qualification.

Important Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be permanently residing within Cape Town
  • Be unemployed
  • Not be enrolled for further studies during the programme

Exceptions apply to:

  • Work Integrated Learning (WIL) students
  • PhD and Doctoral students

Preference will be given to graduates from:

  • Universities
  • Universities of Technology
  • Colleges
  • TVET Colleges within Cape Town

Stipend Information

Depending on budget availability, interns may receive remuneration.

Stipends range from:

  • R36.66 per hour
  • R57.62 per hour
