What Is the Valterra Platinum Community Bursary?
The Valterra Platinum Community Bursary Programme is designed to support deserving South African youth from mining host communities who may not have access to other funding opportunities.
The bursary supports first-time undergraduate studies and focuses on learners from vulnerable and disadvantaged households.

Applicants must live in communities linked to the following Valterra Platinum operations:
Limpopo
- Amandelbult Mine
- Mogalakwena Mine
- Mototolo Mine
- Polokwane Smelter
- Twickenham Project
North West
- Waterval Smelter
Rustenburg Processing & Smelting Operations
- Mortimer Smelter
- Converter Plant (CP)
- Base Metal Refinery (BMR)
- Precious Metal Refinery (PMR)

What Does the Bursary Cover?
The bursary provides full financial support, including:
✔ Tuition fees
✔ Accommodation
✔ Allowance
The bursary is awarded for the full duration of the qualification, subject to satisfactory academic performance and annual review.
Who Can Apply?
You must meet all of the following criteria:
- South African citizen
- Aged 18–25 years
- Reside in a Valterra Platinum host community
- Completed most schooling in a host community
- Completed Matric in 2024 or 2025
- Accepted or enrolled for a first undergraduate qualification
- Qualification must be SAQA-accredited (NQF Level 6 or 7)
- Full-time study, completed within 3 years (by December 2028)
- Studying at a registered public or private institution
- Not a child of a Valterra Platinum employee
Priority Is Given To:
- Orphans and vulnerable learners
- Learners from unemployed households
- Child-headed households
Required Documents
Applicants must upload clear, certified copies of:
- South African ID
- Matric certificate
- Latest academic record (if applicable)
- Acceptance or conditional acceptance letter
- Proof of tertiary registration (if available)
- Proof of residence (not older than 3 months)
- Proof of vulnerability (SASSA letter or affidavit, if applicable)

Selection Process
- Shortlisted candidates will be contacted within 30 days after the closing date
- If you do not receive feedback, consider your application unsuccessful
