About the Social Work Graduate Internship
The Graduate Intern Social Worker will report to the Hospital Manager and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) delivering evidence-based, ethical, and cost-effective mental healthcare services.
This opportunity is ideal for Social Work graduates seeking structured exposure in clinical and mental health social work within a professional healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities (Critical Outputs)
The intern will be expected to:
- Contribute to and maintain the facility’s programme as an MDT member
- Participate in patient programme planning, reviews, and adjustments
- Support patient admission and discharge processes
- Conduct assessments and develop care plans and Individual Development Plans (IDPs) with the MDT
- Ensure compliance with Department of Social Development disability policies and relevant legislation
- Liaise with external stakeholders and referral agencies
- Support marketing initiatives, advocacy events, and community education programmes
- Participate in continuous professional development (CPD) activities
- Attend and actively contribute to MDT meetings
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12
- A Degree in Social Work
- Current registration with SACSSP (South African Council for Social Service Professions)
- A valid driver’s licence
- Knowledge of mental health legislation and policies (advantageous)
