The WIL Programme forms part of Mondi’s strategy to strengthen operational excellence and build a pipeline of skilled entry-level operators in the Pulp and Paper industry.
Programme Purpose
This structured 6-month programme is designed to:
- Develop technical and operational skills
- Provide hands-on workplace experience
- Strengthen safety and production knowledge
- Prepare graduates for entry-level operator roles
Successful participants will be deemed competent for entry-level operational positions within the organisation.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- A Diploma in Chemical Engineering and/or Pulp & Paper Technology
- A minimum average of 60%
- A requirement for P1 & P2 practical experience to complete their qualification
- Completed P1 & P2 in a heavy industry environment (advantageous)
- A valid South African driver’s licence
Key Responsibilities During the Programme
Participants will:
- Develop SAP and Microsoft system skills
- Gain chemical safety knowledge
- Perform housekeeping and pre-start checks
- Assist with plant start-ups and shutdowns
- Conduct routine equipment inspections
- Follow safety and operational procedures
- Perform basic troubleshooting
- Support production teams with equipment performance

After completing the programme, participants will be able to:
- Optimise entry-level process operations
- Maintain safety and quality standards
- Complete operational reports and checklists
- Operate relevant plant equipment
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
