KwaZulu-Natal Government Opens 2026 Bursary Applications

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government has officially opened bursary applications for the 2026 academic year, offering funding opportunities across several key provincial departments.

These bursaries aim to support KwaZulu-Natal youth aged 18–35, particularly those pursuing scarce and critical skills needed by the province. Persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must:

  • Be 18–35 years old
  • Be a KwaZulu-Natal resident
  • Have Grade 12 / Matric
  • Have acceptance or provisional acceptance from a public institution
    OR be currently studying in one of the listed fields

Required Documents

Applicants must submit:

  • Completed official bursary application form (available from:

    • Department of Education District Offices
    • Student Funding Offices
    • Local municipalities and libraries
    • Provincial department websites and social media)
  • Certified copy of ID (and parent/guardian ID or death certificate where applicable)
  • Certified copy of Matric certificate and latest academic record
  • Proof of income or unemployment affidavit
  • Proof of acceptance, registration, or CAO confirmation
  • Proof of residence from ward councillor
  • Profiling certificate (if available)

Important Conditions

  • Bursary covers tuition fees, accommodation, meals/stipend, and prescribed textbooks
  • Successful applicants must sign a service contract with the relevant department
  • Preference given to students studying at KZN institutions
  • Funding is limited; not all applicants will be successful
  • Only successful applicants will be contacted
  • If not contacted within 4 months after closing, consider your application unsuccessful
