What Is ARPL?
ARPL stands for Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning.
It allows experienced tradespeople to:
✔ Have their existing skills formally assessed
✔ Receive structured gap training (if needed)
✔ Prepare for trade testing
✔ Obtain nationally recognised artisan certification
Instead of starting from scratch, ARPL helps you turn years of hands-on work into an official qualification.
South Africa faces a shortage of certified artisans — especially in manufacturing, transport, mining, and construction. This programme helps close that gap.
Trades Available
The programme covers four high-demand trades:
1️⃣ Boilermaker
Work with heavy metal structures and industrial equipment used in mining and engineering.
2️⃣ Diesel Mechanic
Repair and maintain trucks, buses, construction vehicles, and agricultural machinery.
3️⃣ Motor Mechanic
Diagnose and repair light motor vehicles — one of the most employable artisan careers.
4️⃣ Welder
Essential skill across construction, manufacturing, energy, and infrastructure sectors.
Who Qualifies?
You must:
✔ Be 19 years or older
✔ Have at least 3 years relevant industry experience
✔ Be currently unemployed
✔ Have South African work experience
✔ Provide proof of practical trade exposure
⚠️ This programme is NOT for beginners. It is for skilled individuals who need certification.
