The National Treasury of South Africa has officially opened applications for the Chartered Accountants Academy (CAA) Programme 2026 — a prestigious 36-month, full-time training contract designed to develop future Chartered Accountants CA(SA) for the South African public sector.
This highly competitive programme offers graduates the opportunity to earn a fully funded training contract, gain exposure to national financial policy, and contribute directly to public-sector financial transformation.

What Is the Chartered Accountants Academy (CAA)?
The Chartered Accountants Academy (CAA) is National Treasury’s official SAICA-aligned training programme, focused on developing Professional Values, Attitudes and Acumen (PVAA) required for the CA(SA) designation within the public sector.
Unlike private-sector training contracts, the CAA places trainees at the heart of:
- Public-sector financial management
- National policy development
- Public finance reform and governance
What Trainees Will Gain
Successful candidates will:
- Complete a structured 36-month SAICA training contract
- Gain hands-on exposure to government accounting and auditing
- Contribute to national financial policy initiatives
- Rotate across key National Treasury units
- Develop advanced technical, ethical, and leadership competencies
- Play a role in strengthening public-sector accountability
A Learning Agreement must be signed within 3 months of appointment.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- A Certificate in the Theory of Accounting (CTA)
OR - An equivalent qualification meeting SAICA requirements to write the Initial Test of Competence (ITC) – January 2026
Important:
Foreign qualifications (including O- and A-Levels) must be evaluated by SAQA at the applicant’s own cost.

- A technical assessment (job-related competencies)
- An integrity and ethical conduct assessment
