What Is the Chartered Accountants Academy (CAA)?

The Chartered Accountants Academy (CAA) is National Treasury’s official SAICA-aligned training programme, focused on developing Professional Values, Attitudes and Acumen (PVAA) required for the CA(SA) designation within the public sector.

Unlike private-sector training contracts, the CAA places trainees at the heart of:

  • Public-sector financial management
  • National policy development
  • Public finance reform and governance

What Trainees Will Gain

Successful candidates will:

  • Complete a structured 36-month SAICA training contract
  • Gain hands-on exposure to government accounting and auditing
  • Contribute to national financial policy initiatives
  • Rotate across key National Treasury units
  • Develop advanced technical, ethical, and leadership competencies
  • Play a role in strengthening public-sector accountability

Learning Agreement must be signed within 3 months of appointment.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Certificate in the Theory of Accounting (CTA)
    OR
  • An equivalent qualification meeting SAICA requirements to write the Initial Test of Competence (ITC) – January 2026

 Important:
Foreign qualifications (including O- and A-Levels) must be evaluated by SAQA at the applicant’s own cost.

Assessment & Selection Process

Shortlisted candidates will undergo:

  • technical assessment (job-related competencies)
  • An integrity and ethical conduct assessment
