Students planning to study in 2026 now have a major funding opportunity. The City of Ekurhuleni has officially opened applications for its Community Bursary Programme 2026, aimed at helping academically deserving students pursue higher education.
The programme supports students who want to study fields that contribute to municipal development and service delivery across Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality in Gauteng.
Eligible applicants must submit their applications before the closing date on 03 April 2026.
What Is the City of Ekurhuleni Community Bursary?
The bursary programme helps young South Africans gain access to full-time undergraduate studies while building critical skills needed within the municipality.

Who Can Apply?
To qualify for the bursary, applicants must:
- Be a South African citizen
- Reside within the City of Ekurhuleni
- Be between 18 and 35 years old
- Have completed Grade 12
- Have secured admission or registration for the 2026 academic year
- Provide proof of total monthly household income
Documents Required for Application
Applicants must submit certified copies (not older than 3 months) of the following documents:
- South African ID
- Matric Certificate
- Acceptance letter or proof of registration from an accredited institution
- Proof of residence within the City of Ekurhuleni
- Motivation letter (maximum one page)
- Proof of household income (salary slips or bank statement with affidavit)
- Social grant proof (if applicable)

What the Bursary Covers
The bursary may provide funding for:
- Registration fees
- Tuition fees
- Prescribed textbooks
- Accommodation and meals (where applicable)
Funding is renewable annually depending on academic performance.
Bursary Conditions
Successful students must:
- Sign a bursary contract with the City of Ekurhuleni
- Maintain a minimum academic average of 70% each year
- Participate in vacation work within municipal departments
The municipality may withdraw the bursary if academic or conduct requirements are not met.
