The Sekhukhune Development Agency, in partnership with merSETA, is inviting applications for its 2026 Apprenticeship and Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning (ARPL) programmes.

These initiatives aim to empower unemployed youth and experienced artisans with practical skills and formal qualifications in engineering and technical trades.

Diesel Mechanic Apprenticeship Programme 2026

The Diesel Mechanic Apprenticeship provides both theoretical and practical training, preparing young South Africans for careers in diesel mechanics.

Programme Details

  • Qualification: Occupational Certificate – Diesel Mechanic
  • Duration: 36 months
  • Stipend: R3 000/month
  • Opportunities Available: 28

Minimum Requirements

  • South African citizen
  • Aged 18–35
  • Must be unemployed
  • Minimum qualification:
    • Matric with Mathematics OR
    • N2 / NCV Level 3 or higher with relevant trade theory

Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning (ARPL) Programme

The ARPL programme is designed for experienced artisans seeking formal recognition and certification of their skills.

  • Motor Mechanic
  • Diesel Mechanic
  • Welding

Requirements

  • South African citizen
  • 25 years or older
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience

  • 20 opportunities for unemployed artisans
  • 4 opportunities for employed artisans

  • Service letter from employer (if applicable)
