City of Ekurhuleni Opens Community Bursary Programme for 2026
The City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality has officially opened applications for the Community Bursary Programme for the 2026 academic year.
The bursary forms part of the municipality’s commitment to empowering young people, expanding access to higher education, and developing skills that support local service delivery.
Students living within the municipality who plan to study in 2026 are encouraged to apply before the closing date.
Fields of Study Supported
The bursary prioritises qualifications that contribute to infrastructure development, public services, and economic growth within the municipality.
Students can apply if they intend to study in one of the following fields:
- Civil Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Town and Regional Planning
- Architecture
- Environmental Science
- Finance
- Accounting and Auditing
- Information Technology
- Computer Science
- Data Science
- Health Sciences
Only qualifications offered by accredited South African institutions will be considered, including:
- Universities
- Universities of Technology
- TVET Colleges
Who Can Apply?
To qualify for the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality Community Bursary Programme, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must be 18 to 35 years old
- Must reside within the City of Ekurhuleni (proof required)
- Must have completed Grade 12
- Must have an acceptance letter or proof of registration for 2026
- Must provide proof of total household income
Students currently studying or planning to study at TVET colleges are also encouraged to apply.

- South African ID document
- Matric certificate
- Acceptance letter or proof of registration from an accredited institution
- Proof of residence within Ekurhuleni
- Motivation letter (maximum one page)
- Proof of household income (salary slips or stamped bank statements with an affidavit)
- Proof of social grant, if applicable
