LGSETA ARPL Programme 2026 Opens for Experienced Boilermakers
The Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority (LGSETA) has opened applications for the ARPL Programme 2026, offering experienced workers the chance to become certified boilermaker artisans.
The programme is delivered in partnership with Majuba TVET College and aims to help individuals who already have practical trade experience but lack formal qualifications.
Successful candidates will work toward the Occupational Certificate: Boilermaker, a nationally recognised artisan qualification.
⚠️ Only 15 positions are available, and applications close 13 March 2026.
What Is the LGSETA ARPL Programme?
The Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning (ARPL) programme allows workers with relevant workplace experience to have their skills formally assessed.
Through this process, individuals can demonstrate the knowledge and practical abilities they gained on the job, even if they never completed formal trade training.
Certification is issued through the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO), ensuring that the qualification is nationally recognised.
Once successful, candidates may proceed to the trade test, which can lead to official artisan certification.
This certification can significantly improve employment opportunities in industries such as:
- Engineering
- Construction
- Mining
- Manufacturing
Occupational Certificate: Boilermaker
The programme focuses on the Occupational Certificate: Boilermaker, one of the most respected artisan trades in the engineering sector.
Boilermakers play a key role in building, assembling, installing, and repairing large metal structures and industrial equipment.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Fabricating and assembling steel structures
- Welding and cutting metal components
- Repairing boilers, tanks, and pressure vessels
- Reading technical drawings and blueprints
- Installing and maintaining heavy industrial equipment
Because many industries rely on these specialised skills, qualified boilermakers are in high demand across South Africa.
